FIRST Outreach The Robo Squad is active in FIRST at all levels, hosting an FLL qualifier, the Elm City Robo Fest; starting and mentoring FLL teams; mentoring FTC teams; and working with numerous FRC teams, participating in the annual quick build for rookie teams, sharing parts, materials and information, and inviting teams to work with us at our workshop. Team members also present workshops at FIRST University and volunteer at FLL and FRC events as judges, referees, team ambassadors, queuers, and more. |
Community Outreach As a team based out of an inner-city high school in a traditionally underserved community, the Robo Squad believes in helping our neighbors any way we can. This has included making blankets each December for the Blanket Fairy mission, which serves children in DCF custody, hospitals, and shelters; sponsoring food drives at our FLL qualifier; taking part in fun runs and raising money for Integrated Refugee and Immigrant Services (IRIS); and participating in community events like the Durham Fair, East Haven Fall Festival, and Moroso Motors Spooktacular. |
STEAM Outreach Spreading STEAM education is an important part of the Robo Squad's ethos. Through its Robo Recess initiative, the team has used fun projects to teach simple science concepts to elementary and middle school students, partnering with organizations like Camp Rising Sun, a camp for children with cancer and their siblings; IRIS; the Shoreline YMCA; Girl and Boy Scouts; the Blackstone Library; and soon Read To Grow. |
